i am xanatos

rawrrbot:

I read this book in one sitting; two technically because I stopped in the middle to watch a movie so I wouldn’t be up all night reading. But I couldn’t NOT read it, so I continued reading and finished this morning. This book was excellent! I was totally enthralled in the story.
The characters are written so smartly and truthfully, unlike a lot of YA novels, I could really get an understanding of who these people were. They aren’t gassed-up versions of teenage-stereotypes, they’re realistic enough for you to identify with them, or compare them to someone you actually know. Nora Grey, the lead character actually shows she has the capacity to make smart decisions, even if once in a while they can be questionable. The main guy, Patch was a real mystery; this made the story more enthralling… I just HAD to know what was going to happen.
The mystery & the suspense was laid on thicker than I’d expected, but in a good way. I’m usually very quick to figure out stories and usually by the climax I’m just tying up lose ends, but on this one, I had to go along for the ride. I was more than moderately surprised at how good the writing was, because I am a little too used to authors trying too hard to sound like teenagers that I’m insulted at how stupid they must think they/we are.
This book is definitely more intriguing from the first few pages than ‘Twilight’ is, I was immediately invested in this story; those first few chapters and I was lost to the world, all “nonnomnomnomnom.”
[Misc Note]This one character, Jules, by the way he’s described, I kept picturing Nat (of 3OH!3); it made non-funny parts slightly comical because his image was like etched into my brain. LOL.
Also, isn’t this cover art gorgeous?
